Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford

Marcus finds himself in the Ultimate Champion category for the things he’s done off the pitch. Sure, he’s done quite well for himself as a Manchester United and England player, but it’s not often that a footballer would go out of their way to make sure children would still receive school meals during the pandemic; he successfully put pressure on the government to continue this during the holidays when some families were struggling due to unemployment.

Licypriya Kangujam

Like Greta Thunberg, Licypriya Kangujam is a young environmental activist from India. Licypriya, who turned 10 years old in 2021, began campaigning for a better, cleaner world two years ago and has since appeared at events like the United Nations Climate Change Conference and started ‘The Child Movement’ in a bid to tackle air pollution.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHS has been an invaluable part of British life; it provides health care to everyone who needs it and is free at the point of delivery, thanks to taxpayer’s money. Now, with the added pressures of caring for those suffering from COVID and vaccinating millions of people in a short space of time, we need them more than ever. Their uniforms are like superhero outfits, in a way.

Delivery drivers

Like the NHS, delivery drivers have emerged as heroes during the last couple of years. Whether it’s bringing the weekly shop to our doorsteps, delivering takeaways or posting essential household items, their efforts have gone some way to slow down the spread of COVID due to cutting out some unnecessary journeys. Total champs, each and every one.

During lockdown, many parents experienced the levels of patience and concentration required to home school just one child. Now think of teachers and their teaching assistants, who often have 30 children in one class. Heroes, right? Right! Another batch of Ultimate Champion nominees who should really wear a cape and deserve a sit down.
