They’re on of the best teams in England and beyond, with manager Jürgen Klopp leading the Reds to success on more occasions we can remember. 1. They were founded over 130 years ago!

The team were founded on June 3, 1892 by John Houlding, who was a businessman, a politician and became Mayor of the city too.

2. Everton used to play at Anfield!

Liverpool's local rivals actually played at Anfield and when the team left to play in another ground, John Houlding created The Reds so that his ground wouldn't go to waste. Anfield is now the 7th largest football stadium in England, and has a capacity of around 53,000!

3. The liver bird didn’t appear on their kit until the 1950s!

The liver bird is a mythical creature which is a similar to a cormorant. It was made part of the club crest in 1901, but didn't appear on the team's shirts until 1955. They also played in red and white until 1964 until their manager Bill Shankly decided on a strip which was completely red. Their first game in all-red was against Belgian team Anderlecht.

4. They’ve never been lower than 8th!

Since 1963, Liverpool has never finished lower than 8th place in the Premier League, meaning they've been consistently excellent and always in with a shout of the title!

5. They were the first English team to have a shirt sponsor!

Liverpool are the first English professional club to have a logo sponsor on the front of their shirts. They started featuring the logo of Hitachi, a Japanese company, on their kit in 1979.

6. They were featured on the first Match of the Day!

The first ever showing of Match of the Day was broadcast on BBC2 on August 22, 1964. Liverpool's home fixture against Arsenal was featured on this now long-running programme.

7. The famous This is Anfield sign is displayed for one reason!

Legendary manager Bill Shankly – who decided to make the team play in red – came up with the idea to place the iconic ‘This is Anfield’ sign on the players’ tunnel to scare their opposing teams. Players often touch it for good luck before they run onto the field. He knew what he was doing!

8. They’ve played Everton in the FA Cup more than any other team!

When it comes to the FA Cup, Liverpool seem to play Everton more than anyone else. The Mersey rivals have faced each other in the legendary cup 19 times so far.

9. 15 players have managed to score on each day of the week!

Just 15 Liverpool players hold the record for scoring on each day of the week. Most recently, players Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi have hit the net on Monday to Sunday.

10. Their trophy cupboard is so full!

Liverpool aren't strangers with winning trophies. They've won the Community Shield 15 times – a record – and they've also won the League Cup 8 times. FA Cup? That'll be 7 times. They've won the League 19 times too. And that’s not even counting European titles! Let's just say they're very good.

11. Several Liverpool managers played for the club too!

Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish all represented Liverpool on the pitch before being given one of the most pressured jobs in professional football.

12. They’re World Cup winners!

The club has already emerged as top dogs in competitions outside England. These include the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA World Cup and European Cup!

13. The club’s anthem is from a musical!

You'll Never Walk Alone is a song you’ll hear during a Liverpool match. It was adopted by the fans after local band Gerry and the Pacemakers had a hit with it in 1963, but did you know it originally appeared in the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel? The musical has nothing to do with Liverpool, Anfield or even football.

14. They love winning the European Cup!

Liverpool have won the European Cup 6 times – that's more than any other English team. This isn't the actual cup. The real one is massive and won't fit on this page.

15. Ian Rush is the team’s greatest goalscorer!

Ian Rush is on record as scoring the most goals for Liverpool. Over the course of his career on Merseryside, he hit the back of the net 346 goals times in 668 games for the team. He also represented Wales too.
