1. Demon Dentist by David Walliams

One of our favourite authors, David Walliams, published this book last year. Strange stuff happens when this dentist comes to town, with all sorts of creepy crawlies and evil occurrences. We can't spoil the ending for you, but it's a perfect read for Halloween.

2. The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black

What if all the creatures from the Hogwarts forbidden forest started coming out of the closet that led to Narnia? Well, to find out, you'll have to get started on this series, with all kinds of ghouls, goblins and fairies.

3. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman has written all kinds of things - films, comics, episodes of Doctor Who, and other kid favourites like Coraline and Stardust. The Graveyard Book is basically the Jungle Book, but set in a graveyard, with exactly the kinds of scary creatures and spooky characters you'd expect!

4. GooseBumps: Most Wanted by R.L. Stine

If you liked the Goosebumps film from last year, you will love this most recent batch of scary stories. The Most Wanted series takes all the classic horrors from the previous books, and puts a new spin on them. For even more scares, there's also a Halloween Zombie Special Edition!

5. The Witches by Roald Dahl

A creepy classic like this should be read every Halloween! When a young boy stumbles across a gathering of witches, horror and chaos ensue, and it is up to him to save children across England from a gruesome fate. Happy haunting!
