5 of the World’s Weirdest Sharks!

Megamouth Shark!

It sounds like the sort of name you'd make up on the spot if you didn't know what this type of shark was called, but it really is called the Megamouth. It's one of the laziest types of shark, paddling slowly around with its (mega)mouth open waiting for plankton and small fish to get scooped up.

Goblin Shark!

ARGH! ARGH ARGH ARGH! The Goblin Shark lives in really deep parts of the ocean that people very rarely visit, which is good because it's REALLY TERRIFYING. It can extend its bottom jaw to eat things, sort of like a really scary monster would.

Basking Shark!

The second-biggest shark in the world, the Basking Shark grows up to 13 metres long! Its giant mouth looks scary (imagine swimming into that by accident!) but is only used to eat plankton and other tiny creatures. We'd still rather not run into one.

Wobbegong Shark!

Also known as the Carpet Shark, the Wobbegong lurks at the bottom of the sea using its patterns for camouflage and feeding on whatever comes its way...

Whale Shark!

The Whale Shark is the biggest shark in the world, in this picture, your head would be the size of one of those little fish near the shark's mouth!
