At the Beano, we LOVE bugs… As long as they’re in the right place. It’s with that in mind, that we’ve come up with a SERIOUSLY horrific prank to shock your resident Grown-Up! It’s an old classic, but sometimes the oldest tricks work the best. It’s called the Bed Bug prank.

So, let's retreat back to our top secret crafting station, gather our tools, and get ready for some SERIOUS PRANKING!

Step 1: You Will Need:

  • 1. Paper.. Just some scrap paper will do. This isn’t school. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
  • 2. Something to draw on the paper with. Whatever you feel most comfortable with is best. We used a combination of pencil crayons and felt-tips.
  • 3. Scissors. Remember scissors can be dangerous. Don’t get over excited and run holding scissors, never throw scissors and please don’t break into a haunted house and use scissors to cut open the twine that binds a mysterious ancient package belonging to your long lost Uncle, Egyptologist, Dr Hilary Doom.
  • 4. A Penny. If you don’t have a penny then try looking down the back of the sofa. Don’t worry if you can’t find one, though, it’s the least important part.

Step 2: Draw A Bug

This is the hard bit. We’re going to draw a bug. Remember realism is key AND it should be big enough to cover the penny. We consulted talented Beano cartoonists and they told us that the best way to draw something realistic is to keep practising. We drew about a gazzillion bugs before we had one we thought looked realistic enough! Having said that it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT. Like we said earlier, it’s all about where the bug is placed. More on that later… Mwahaha!

Step 3: Make It All Shiny

Carefully cover the bug in Sellotape or some other see-through sticky tape. This will make your drawing nice and shiny, just like a bug!

Step 4: Cut Out Your Bug

Carefully cut out your bug. The legs are the tricky bits. Don’t worry if you accidentally cut one off, it will just make your bug even more grisly looking!

Step 5: Add Some Weight

Tape your penny to the bottom of your bug. This will do three things. Firstly it will weigh the bug down and stop it blowing away at the wrong time. Secondly it will lift the bug of the ground slightly and cast a shadow - just like a real bug. Thirdly, it will make the bug skid around a bit, depending on where you put it!

Step 6

Place your bug. It should be somewhere it catches the eye suddenly. Inside a drawer… Under the duvet… Use your pranking brains! Then all you have to do is WAIT!
