SpongeBob was originally going to be called Spongeboy Ahoy. However the makers realised that 'Spongeboy' is actually the name of a mop, so a new name was invented!
2. The giant David Hasselhoff
For the SpongeBob Movie they made a 12 foot statue of actor David Hasselhoff. David Hasselhoff then got to keep it. Maybe it's in his house!
3. Award-winning sponge!
SpongeBob has a massive 205 episodes and 10 seasons with more on the way. It’s the longest running Nickelodeon series of all time, and has won 70 awards!
4. Spongiforma Squarepantsii
A newly discovered type of mushroom was named after SpongeBob himself. It looks more like SpongeBob’s parents than SpongeBob himself!
5. SpongeBob is married to Karen
The voice of SpongeBob is married to the voice of Karen, Plankton's computer. Tom Kenny and Jill Talley have been married since 1995. We wonder what Plankton thinks about that!
