Beano Superstars – Freddy

Here’s something not many people know about me – I was born on Christmas Day! People who are born on December 25 can look at this in two ways. You could be in a huff because everyone else you know are getting presents on your birthday, or you could just think that everyone is having a great time. I always choose the second option. It’s too exciting!

It’s so exciting, in fact, that I find it really difficult to go to sleep on Christmas Eve, but on Christmas Day, I leap out of bed. Why? Double presents! How awesome is that? Not many people get to wear a paper crown during their birthday dinner.

The following people might, though: the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, the football commentator Chris Kamara and actress Georgia Tennant are all in the Christmas birthday club! So, happy birthday for December 25!

When I say leap out of bed, it could be any number of movements: a tuck jump here, a straddle jump there, a cat leap or even a straight jump full turn. Sometimes I combine a couple of these jumps, just for fun. I’m really good at gymnastics, you see. I have the agility of a cat, so think of me as the Simone Biles of Bash Street School, if you like. 

When I’m not doing awesome gymnastic moves or getting into scrapes with my classmates, I live on the third floor of Bash Street Towers with my mum and dad – most people call them Margaret and John – and my baby sister Felicity. Most of my friends live in this tower block, actually. My best friend ‘Erbert lives on the floor below, which makes everything very handy for when I call for him on the way to school. I’m always helping him look for something, and we’re late to school sometimes.

Bonus fact: Frederick Brown’s nickname was Fatty until 2021 when our readers told us we should change it - so we did! Now he is always called Freddy, apart from sometimes when his mum and teacher call him 'Frederick' because he's in trouble (which for a Bash Street Kid is pretty often!).
